Kindle for PC update
I recently stated in a forum that I prefer to de-DRM the Amazon ebooks and read them on the PC with mobipocket reader instead of Kindle for PC, because the mobipocket reader is so much more convenient. But the last update for the Kindle for PC from Amazon brought the Kindle for PC closer to mobipocket reader but still does not catch up.
But I have to admit that Amazon added some pretty big improvements and they are promising even more improvements.
The improvements are:
- Ability to create and edit notes and highlights. Always wondered why Kindle for PC lacked this important function, since it is much more useful to do that kind of stuff on the PC and later sync it to the Kindle.
- Brightness Controls. Nice!
- Full Screen Reading. Also nice!
- Background Color Setting. White on black (night mode), black on white, and sepia.
The overall reading experience is much better than before, the Night Mode is great for night reading and easy on the eyes, the Sepia imitates a book and is preferable to black text on a white background.
There are more new features to come:
- Search function– search in a book or across your Kindle library.
- Two Page Reading Mode. I use that with mobi reader since I got a 16:9 Monitor.
- Zoom and rotate images. Kindle DX already has this function.
- Collections – same as announced for the 2.5 Kindle software.
Kindle for Mac is slated to get some improvements including -
- Create Notes and Highlights.
- Search.
- Zoom.
