Sony: 20,000 Blu-ray players with BRAVIA LCD TV purchases

Sony gives away one of 20,000 BDPS550 Blu-ray player as a bonus for every sold BRAVIA LCD TV.

The promotion begins on 16 March 2009.

The Sony’s BDP-S550 regularily costs about $649. It will provide real Full HD enjoyment to owners of these TVs.
The player also features 7.1 channel audio capability, Bonus View and BD-Live.

BDPS550 Blu-ray player

The BDPS550 can access the internet during a movie to download up-to-date content, such as new previews or exclusive special features and so on. A build in Ethernet port is responsible for the connection. It enables easy firmware updates for the player. The BDPS550 also provides “picture-in-picture” capability with select Blu-ray Disc titles – for viewing director or actor commentary.

Flash based memory to store downloads from BD-Live are connected via USB. A 1 GB storage devices is already included. The Blu-ray player features 1080/60p and 24p True Cinema output and is compatible with most standard DVDs and feature 1080p upscaling through an HDMI connection to capable HDTV sets. It is supposed to improve the picture of the older DVD format.

Sony has to be bankrupting themselves to be doing that.So if there were to sell 100 BRAVIA LCD TVs. Then they would be giving away 2,000,000 free dvds plasyers?
